The Rosalita dress
The Rosalita dress was inspired by the Rosa jacket which has roots in Eastern European workwear. I am wearing mine as a spring coat for this fresh weather.

This dress was inspired by traditional Mexican shapes. The only exception is the neckline, although the traditional huipil blouses did not have a curved neckline.
When I started to think about ss20, it was actually spring in 2019. After a re-watch of Frida the movie, I became interested in the square shapes and deceptively simple garments worn by Kahlo.
The shoot was a great success despite the baking sun shining over us, we giggled, ate delicious food and got excited about how great the clothes looked.
Clean shirt is easy, hard wearing and stylish, made from Japanese washi cloth which is from the pulp of the gampi tree, mitsumata and kozo bush. Made by hand it involves an intricate process.
The sweep Dress was inspired by Alison’s desire to create the perfect dress. Care, time and intricate work is a the heart of our ethos at sula though not without its difficulties.
It was bitingly cold outside. Luckily there was a wonderful wood burning stove. Fanta could warm her toes on it after posing for shots on the freezing cold beach outside.
In Vietnam our production team have been busy marking up the cloth for cutting and stitching. Meanwhile, by the sea, we are cutting final pieces of material and checking patterns.
We have had a really fun day working on the SS18 collection, picking out fabrics and colours, trying on all of the clothes. Choir dress has absolutely tonnes of drawn thread work and tiny gathers.

We found our dressing room, adorned with an old rope hanging amongst the dusty sackcloth and drying workers clothes of a 400 year old spice store. The colours of the room were amazing.
